Loikaw

Loikaw is the capital of Kayah State. The smallest capital in Myanmar and untouched destination for tourist . It is located in the Karen Hills area, near the State’s northern tip, just above an embayment on the Pilu River. The inhabitants are mostly Kayah, mostly Kayah who are also known as Karenni.

Myanmar’s largest hydropower plant is located 20 km east of Loikaw at Lawpita Falls and named as Lawpita Hydropower Plant. It is the main electric power source of Myanmar.

Loikaw is about 70 miles south of Kalaw and about 5 hours drive from Kalaw. Taungwe Taung Zedi is the most venerated pagoda in Kayah State. Taungwe means “separate hills” in Myanmar. The Keinnery Bird is the symbol of the Kayah State.
